Online identities

Well I was going to post a photo on here today, but I've been spending a lot of time trying to tie all of my various online identities together. Alongside this I've noticed a bit of a pattern, registering the user name huskypup. Even today while trying to sort out where on the Internet I've spread myself, I'm still signing up to more services.

The nickname huskypup came in 1999 while I was working for a James Kelsey Design (JKD), a new media agency and my first role in that industry. Colleagues there had a thing for giving people nicknames, usually ending in 'ster' like Aim'ster (Amy) or Hus'ter (me). I was using my shortened name back then when having a name similar to a certain dictator was not helping my job prospects... Hey it does happen!

My nickname changed though as those creative types at JKD got, well creative. So I was known as Hus, Huster, Huster Buster (don't ask), Hus'kypup and on occasion, young pup. Huskypup was by far the best nickname I was ever given and so when registering a domain and getting yourself web hosting became affordable, I registered huskypup.com. I used it for tinkering and then as an online C.V. before blogging took off. I started my first blog in 2003 and have mostly continued to do so in one guise or another. Last April I was at loss as to what to do with huskypup.com and to a lesser extent I still am. Currently it is serving as a place where this blog, my Twitter updates and Flickr post congregate in the form of my life stream.

See, what I did there? I mentioned Twitter which mostly replaced my blog or the need to write something online. Of course, I registered the username 'huskypup' and then that's sort of where I felt the need to protect my nickname. So I registered it on Jaiku, Plurk, Indenti.ca, Brightkite and Kwippy, as well as on Tumblr and WordPress. I missed out on a few places, like Last.fm, Blogger and MySpace, having to use 'urbanpup' instead. With Flickr my username is huskypup but my Yahoo! ID is urbanpup - confused yet? I know I am, and now I've registered huskypup on Lifestream.fm, another life stream application like Sweetcron, only hosted elsewhere and it's actually looking very good too!

This all gives me one huge headache and probably those reading this post. Now I have to try and manage what gets posted and where, after all I don't want to subject people to the same post multiple times on the same website. And just when I think I've got it sorted... DOH! another cool web app just happens to come along.
